A finalist in the 2010 "Bead Dreams" competition seed bead category.

Fall is my favorite season and by far the shortest in southcentral Alaska. Winter is the longest season. This project is my effort to do what I can to reconcile my adored autumn with a wan winter.

The collar measures 9 inches at it's longest point and 7 inches wide. It contours around the neck rather than being a flat piece. An oval cabochon of ruby zosite is the focal point front and center. A round cabochon also of ruby zosite is part of the back fastener. The majority of the project is bead embroidered, each bead being individually attached rather than couched. This makes the piece much more durable. 4mm ruby beads and color treated freshwater pearls accent other areas of the collar. The fastener at the back is a heavy sterling silver wire formed to support both ends of the collar and the fastener itself. The backing is black ultrasuede.
