Description

The name of this one of a kind art doll, wearing olive green paisley printed cloth with a crystal wand, is "Journey". She began her life as a Byzantine Russian babushka, journeying as a bohemian storyteller around medieval Europe picking up a Greek coin, an Indian silver and crystal charm and a Roman Rosary bead. She has added the charms and a quartz crystal spear to her magical rainbow staff.

Her staff is removable, to be used by you as a wand, to focus your spiritual thoughts. Journey will grace your home inspiring conversations, and reminding you of your dreams and the stories of your own journeys. As a one of a kind work of sculptural art, she has intricacies and details waiting for you to discover.

"Journey" was my 2009 Hoffman Challenge entry, and features several of the coordinates along with the main competition fabric of printed cotton chintz. She is supported by a wire armature, wrapped in batting and cloth and a polymer clay giant bead head. Her hand sculpted face is "tattooed" and painted, with make up around her glass bead eyes. Her cloth and wire hands (with purple fingernail polish), her arms and the direction of her gaze are all gently adjustable.

She wears long sleeved paisley print dress, with tea dyed lace trim over her lace trimmed pantaloons. I had most fun making her embellished boots from felt. Crocheted variegated yarn makes her sash, finished it with some handmade wavy edged paper beads, which have been featured on Instructables.com.

I really enjoyed sewing the highly detailed wavy edge on her cloak. There are so many tiny details to discover and enjoy. Her cloak is textured with machine couched yarn spirals, decorated front and back with hand quilted and beaded paisley motifs from the main fabric and other embellishments like buttons, glass beads and shaped brads.

As a young shaman, she dove herself in the ancient Aegean sea for the whopping pearl on her chain necklace. She has collected several gold and glass bead wound bracelets and rings, adding new things every place she stopped.

Journey's hair is a very lush blend of soft yarns. She wears two soft braids. Her hat is inspired by Eastern European traditional headdresses. Finally in the back she wears a red flower for good luck.

Journey stands 16 inches tall attached permanently to a decoupaged wooden round (3/4 inch thick) with a foam bottom to protect your display surface. She should be kept from excessive sunlight to minimize fading and spot cleaned only, should it be necessary.

Payments

Secure options
  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
I prefer Paypal, although I do accept cards per the Etsy policies. I require payment prior to shipping. CA residents will have 8.75% sales tax added to orders.

Returns & exchanges

I want you to love your doll. If you receive a doll and you don't like her after all, you may return her to me WITHIN 14 DAYS of receipt, in unused condition, at your expense. I will refund the doll's price via the payment method, less shipping. No-one has sent me back a doll yet.

The same policies apply to crocheted items and any of the other textile art items that appear in my store from time to time.

Exceptions:

Items ON SALE, are considered final sales.

Tags and Cards are sold AS-IS. Honestly it's just not worth the bank fees to do refunds on the inexpensive paper crafted items. (No-one has ever wanted to send back cards or tags either.)

Damages.....

In the event of a loss by the post office, or packages damaged in transit, we can work together to track down the package. If USPS tracks the item as delivered, I am going to consider it as received by the buyer. If USPS has lost it, I will refund the price or create a similar replacement doll (it won't be exactly the same because they are all one of a kind) or similar Card.

If the doll has been damaged in transit, you must make an official complaint to USPS, and I will do the same. I will refund or replace it, once you have shipped her back to me WITHIN 14 DAYS of delivery. Please photograph the damaged box as part of the complaint to USPS.

Shipping policies

In general I ship USPS Priority Mail and Priority Mail International. I ship cards and tags USPS First Class Mail. I ship purchases next business day. I don't usually do signature confirmation for regular dolls, because not everyone is home to receive packages. For Bead Head dolls (over $100) I insure.
International mailing is listed as "Merchandise". Any duties are the buyer's responsibility.

Additional policies

Special Policies for Commissions.....

If you contact me for a commission, we can discuss terms depending on the size of the project. In general I would need a 50% non-refundable* deposit up front, with balance due on completion prior to shipping.

*In the event that you change your mind about the order before I have made the piece I will refund your deposit. However if I have begun or finished the piece, I can either hold the doll for you if requested, or I will place the finished doll for sale. If I am able to recoup the full cost within ONE YEAR, I will then be happy to refund your deposit.

If you do not like the finished commission, an extremely unlikely event, you may return her to me in unused condition WITHIN 14 DAYS. I will refund 50% (not including shipping) and proceed as above, placing the doll for sale.

No-one has changed their mind about a commissioned doll yet.

Doll Hospital...

My dolls are not for play, but decorative use by adult collectors. Sometimes over time even carefully considered cloth dolls can get damaged. I will undertake repairs on older damaged dolls from my store for 20% of the original purchase price, plus shipping.

New clothes for your doll? That's a commission. Let's talk.
