If you are looking for a special gift, choose hand-coloured engravings. While admiring them, keep in mind that the brilliant colours that make them so lifelike and vibrant-looking were painstakingly done by hand.

A hand-coloured copper plate engraving of toucans, parrots, cuckoos and cuckatoos, and other birds, from Oliver Goldsmith's 1847 classic, "A History of the Earth and Animated Nature". The book, which eventually went through 20 editions, was an encyclopedic work meant to catalogue every flora and fauna on earth.

The Oliver Goldsmith hand-coloured copper plates are highly prized for their beautiful illustrations with vibrant colours.

Published in 1847 by A. Fullarton & Co., London & Edinburgh.

This rare engraving is in very good condition, as per photo. Blank on the back. Printed on ivory-coloured medium weight paper, almost cardstock weight.
