Antique reference book: The Florists' Manual by William Scott - A Reference Book for Commercial Florists

Wonderful old book telling all about flowers - they're featured alphabetically. The author describes the ideal soil for each, how to plant them, propagating, etc. Many black & white photo illustrations of the flowers, both cut & growing. Also shown are several New York flower shops, interior & exterior; greenhouses; flower arrangements.

Then there are wonderful graphic ads in the back for insecticides, floral ribbons & chiffons, spray pumps, fertilizers, seeds, mushroom spawn, greenhouse heaters, greenhouses, paint, flower pot handles & hangers, and more.

This great old book has had a hard life & the front & back covers have come loose. The pages are all still intact except for the last few which are attached to the loose back cover. The title is printed in gold on the front. It was quite a nice book in its day as it cost $5.00 in 1906. This book is very heavy, 255 pages, approx. 8.5 x 11.5" with leather corners & spine (most of which is missing). The cover shows lots of wear, but the book is pretty nice inside. It has no funny smells.

Second edition; Chicago: Florists' Publishing Company. 1906.
