This is my second Roly Poly Pill Bug crochet pattern, and this version has fewer small details to sew — the body segments are crocheted in one piece.
It was designed for blanket yarn, but you can use any yarn weight to make a larger or smaller pill bug. And if you add a toy joint skeleton, your pill bug can actually roll up into a little ball for extra cuteness. :)

This is a crochet pattern (PDF), not a finished toy.

The PDF is 8 pages long, is written in English using US crochet terms, and includes lots of helpful photos.

Finished size is approximately 15 inches long when made with the specified materials.
You can use any weight yarn with an appropriate hook to make your pill bug larger or smaller.

Pattern details:
• English (US crochet terms)
• 8-page downloadable PDF
• Advanced Beginner level
• Helpful step-by-step photos
• Body segments are crocheted in one piece

You will need:
Yarn:
Alize Velluto (3.53 oz / 74.3 yds)
• About 2 skeins of beige
• About 4 skeins of dark gray
Hook:
• 5.5 mm
(I use a smaller hook than the yarn manufacturer recommends to avoid gaps in the work.)
Other materials:
• Pins (I used large plastic needles)
• Fiberfill
• Stitch markers
• 24 mm safety eyes — you can use bigger or smaller eyes if you prefer
• Tapestry needle
Optional, for the rolling mechanism:
• Plush toy joint skeleton, approximately 10–12 inches long
• A piece of fabric, 25 × 2.5 inches
For a small pill bug made with sport weight yarn, use 9 mm diameter skeleton joints. For the blanket yarn pill bug, I recommend at least 16 mm or 20 mm diameter joints.
