Description

One of a small series of vintage leather bracelets or cuffs for BJDs 16” and up (MSD to SD size) and some friends around the same size or a bit bigger—14” Toni and Betsy McCall, 18” American Girl type dolls, 20” Karito Kids, etc.

It started with 5 of what are now the leather bracelets as beads in a necklace that needed a change.

Since I was thinking of steam punk jewelry for the BJDs, opening the leather beads to use them as bracelets seemed obvious, and here we are.

Except for a couple of pieces of repro/faux Victorian filigree, everything in these bracelets is vintage, some unused, some, including all the watch parts, repurposed from previous usage.

I have made four of these bracelets so far, and have one bead left, so maybe there will be another here or maybe I’ll make one for my own dolls.

The models for this series (none of whom are for sale, nor are their clothes) are Calais (a CED who’s changed her name from Colin), Ellowyne, and Lulu, a Karito Kid representing a girl from Kenya. Lulu, who is not a BJD, was included because one of my 20-something advisers pointed out that Cal and Ello are not dressed in steam punk style. Well, I wear steam punk jewelry with any outfit, but Lulu happened to be wearing something a little more steam punk/goth, so I asked her to help out. This also gave me (and you) a chance to see how these pieces look on a larger wrist. However, Cal is currently the sole model for this bracelet--her photos were the best, even though I'm not entirely happy with them.

This bracelet, which can be worn either side up, has an old metal watchface wrapped around the leather. It supports an assemblage of watch gears in different sizes and colors, and a tiny hourglass, capped with one vintage and one repro beadcap, hangs off one side.

Ellowyne writes:
Time's up! The sand is running out
I turn it over, bored,
And watch it running out again--
It cannot be ignored.

I turn it back and down it goes
Back through the hour glass.
I watch and look and hold my book
And wait for time to pass.

This piece should be fine under normal doll's wearing conditions. I would, however, keep it away from animals and small children.

Payments

Secure options
  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
We accept paypal, credit cards, and personal checks. Paypal or a card will get your stuff there faster, since items paid by check aren't mailed until the check arrives and clears.
We normally ship by first class mail with a tracking number once a week, sometimes more often, as soon as possible after orders are paid for and packaged, but because of our location there may be a few days' delay in getting to the P.O., especially in stormy weather. We also insure all items over $50- in the US, but can't track or insure packages going to most international destinations.

Returns & exchanges

If your item arrives broken or damaged, I will refund the price, including shipping & handling, when it is returned or when you send me a photo clearly showing the damage. You can also return the item to be repaired or replaced, or, if it cost $50- or more, collect the insurance from the PO.

I will also give store credit for returns for any other reason as long as you let me know immediately that the item won't work for you and return it promptly--within 10 days in the US, and a negotiated time from other countries. You pay shipping and of course it needs to arrive in the condition in which it left the shop.

Shipping policies

PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING ME TO REDUCE SHIPPING AND HANDLING!!
I've been asked recently by a couple of new customers interested in buying one item whether I would lower my first item shipping costs for them. The answer is no--it wouldn't be fair to my other customers, especially those buying more and/or repeatedly, and it would be a loss to me.

Here's the deal with shipping: the first item charge covers packing materials, my cost for getting the packing materials, going to the PO--gas, oil, wear & tear on my car, and time.

April 2016 I AM VERY SORRY TO HAVE TO RAISE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING COSTS.
I took a 1/2 oz package to the PO this week and they charged almost $10- more than I'd paid previously! I'm keeping it as low as I can by sourcing less expensive (but still sturdy) packaging, etc., but I can't control the PO!
I will try to sort out rates for different countries-- they are listed in numbered categories-- & reduce for those not at the higher end, but I just ate $9- in shipping on a tiny package & can't afford to keep doing that. If you think your country is less expensive and I haven't redone this, ask me & I'll check and change if possible.

Additional items are much less because all of that except the actual cost of packing materials, additional postage, and a little bit of time is already covered.

I could build some of this into my prices, as many sellers do to make S&H lower, but I choose to keep my prices low and make S&H realistic and much cheaper for additional items--if I built it into the price it would cost more for each purchase rather than just the first one.
