This dress is such an incredibly rare thing: a high end, dressy, embellished wool day dress from around 1930-31. The detailing is just astonishing. It's also in beautiful condition.

Because it's marking the transition from 1920s to 1930s shapes, there isn't a defined waist seam on the dress, although it has lovely multiple darts at the back. But on the hip is such incredibly well executed deco seaming, extending into lovely crisp pleats in the skirt.

It fastens up the back with a set of black faceted glass buttons, the cuffs fasten with tiny blue self-covered buttons, 3 on each cuff. The whole neck yoke area is filled with wool spirals and wiggles all linked together with fagotting. The arms are even more amazing, with pointy wool spirals on each elbow!

It's made of a light weight soft wool crepe in a rich dark blue (but not quite navy) tone. Some of the pictures are looking a little lighter than it is.

Condition: excellent, I can't see any faults.
Also, the embellishment is all backed in wool, so it's not as delicate as it looks.

Size: the wool has some give to it, but I'd say a US size 10 ish

underarm to underarm: 19 inches
hip: 40-42 inches
length: 48 inches nape to hem
sleeve: 23 inches
shoulder seam to seam: 14 inches
