All patches come with Heat n Bond Ultra iron on adhesive already applied. However if you prefer to sew your patches on then they can be supplied without the backing to make it easier to stitch to your garment. Please message me to let me know if this is the case. The iron on adhesive works best on natural fabrics such as cotton, denim etc as they absorb the glue better. It will not work as well on man made fabrics, in which case you may need to add some stitches to secure it.

Iron on patch instructions
1. All patches come with Heat ‘n’ Bond Ultra iron on adhesive backing already applied.

2. Peel off the paper liner and place the patch adhesive side down on top of the garment. Patches work best on natural fabrics like denim or cotton for a semi-permanent fix of around 20 washes. For a permanent fix it is always better to sew on your patches.

3. Cover the patch with a thin cloth and set the iron to its cotton setting or equivalent (no steam)

4. Press and hold down the iron on the patch long enough for the heat to penetrate it and melt the glue on the reverse side. The amount of time will vary depending on the thickness of the patch but from experience anything between 5 – 8 secs should be sufficient. For larger patches repeat the process working in sections until the entire surface is bonded. Let the patch cool completely as bonding only takes place once the adhesive has completely cooled down

5. Carefully turn the garment inside out and repeat the process from the back, once again allow it to completely cool before testing.

6. Once cooled if the edge of the patch can be lifted repeat step 6 to reactivate the glue and increase the time by a few seconds.

7. Do not machine wash at high temperatures or tumble dry as it may affect the adhesive. For extra security it is always recommended that you add a few stitches around the edge of the patch.
