Saint Paraskeva or Света Петка, popularly called by her worldly name, Petka (or Petka-Paraskeva, was born in the 11th century in the town of Epibata on the shore of the Sea of Marmara, near the imperial city of Constantinople. Her parents were faithful in fulfilling God's commandments and well-known for their charitable deeds.
Petka, like most girls of her time, was educated at home but in church one day, Petka heard the Gospel reading, "If any man will follow Me, let him deny himself..." Christ's words her heart so much that on leaving the church she gave away her good dress to a poor woman on the street, exchanging it for the woman's rags. She did this several times. When she was scolded, she replied that she could not live otherwise. To be a disciple of Christ meant to be a doer of the word and not a hearer only. Then, still quite young, Petka left everything- parents, relatives, servants, and went to Constantinople where her soul delighted in the spiritual treasures of the capital: its beautiful churches, precious relics of numerous saints, and the prayers and blessings of the hermits.
Her feast day is determined by the Orthodox church as 14th of October.

PLEASE NOTE: This icon is made when ordered. Please allow up to 7 days for your icon to be made prior to shipping! THANK YOU!

This is my interpretation of the St Petka popular orthodox image.
The icon is painted on wood panel with tempera on stucco canvas.I used gold leaf for the background and sealed the icon with couple of layers to assure a long lasting image and to make it easy and safe to clean it from dust. The back and the sides of the wood panel are varnished with darker tone semi transparent varnish for a nice finish.

The icon measures 8" long (20cm), 6" wide (15cm)
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to commission a specific icon or scene you don't see in my shop, I will be glad to make it for you!
