This stunning edition of The Book of the Flower Fairies by Cicely M Barker was published by Blackie and Son. The book itself is undated but I'd estimate it to be from circa 1950. It still has it's original dust jacket which is protected by clear plastic. ***Please note that the book has a smoky odour***

The book is bound in blue cloth with gilt decoration to the front board and lettering to the front board and spine. It's in very good condition but the DJ shows some wear and tear to the edges - there are some subtle tape repairs to the back of the DJ. There is also some soiling and foxing to the dust jacket, and chips to the surface of the paper. Underneath the DJ, the spine of the book is faintly sunned and there is foxing to the edge of the text block.

Inside, the DJ is unclipped and there are no inscriptions. The pages show light age toning and occasional foxing. The pages and plates are remarkably clean and bright. The illustrations by the author Mary Cicely Barker have become so iconic and recognisable, and the book is enjoyed by children and adults alike. The flowers and plants are botanically accurate drawings and Mary based the beautiful fairy images on real children from her sister’s nursery school.

Dimensions approximately 19cm x 14.5cm x 2.5cm.

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and ribbon. The bubble wrap I use is 100% oxo-degradable and the jiffy bags are recyclable.

Where possible, I use 100% recyclable paper tape, but sometimes I have to use clear plastic tape for extra strength.
