Highlights
Dorothy C. York was a Black educator, community leader, and activist in the twentieth century. She lived and worked in Florida, becoming an instrumental figure in numerous Black organizations there and across the country. In 2022, the Hillsborough County Public School system named its newest academy after her: the Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy. She published several books, including this volume, Blacks’ Survival For the 1980’s and Beyond. It is a treatise on Black community organization and Black excellence. It contains sections on forming locally-driven Black economies, building racial solidarity, and lifting up Black community leaders. It is a slim volume, but it proves impactful through its cogent arguments and clear, accessible prose.
This first edition, first printing is in very good condition. In the original black wrappers, very good with only closed tear to foot of spine, minor chipping, rubbing, and sticker residue to back flap. Text block fine.
A very good first edition of this 1980s treatise on Black excellence in America.
