Vintage antique long copper and brass English hunting horn. My mother was always returning from their trips back to England in the '60's and '70's with antique treasures. This was one of her finds and it was displayed above their fireplace as a decoration. With apologies, dear shopper, you will need to put the two pieces together in your mind's eye to appreciate the graceful proportions of this horn in it's assembled length (at least until I acquire a wide-angle lens :=)!)

A similar one "slightly dented" long horn sold for $80.00 (see http://www.trocadero.com/stores/mitch0369/items/969937/item969937.html).

Please note--ours is 13" longer than theirs and the diameter of our trumpet end is 3/4" larger than theirs at 4 1/2" . Now mind you, there's is/was shinier than ours--I've left ours in it's natural, patina-ed state since I know from watching Antiques Road Show that it's sometimes better not to clean things up (or maybe I'm just saying that because I don't want to do the work!).

To compensate someone who would want this horn only for it's decorative value,(and hence who would likely have to clean it) I'm dropping $5.00 off the fetching price of the comparable shinier one.

It is 48" (122 cm.) long, and pulls apart from a joining collar at approximately mid-section (this is how it will be shipped). As aforementioned, the diameter of the trumpet end is 4.5" (11.5 cm.) The mouth-piece and adjacent collar appear to be brass (somewhat tarnished so it's barely distingushable from the adjacent tarnished copper of the horn itself.

There are no discernible dents, but running fingers along the shaft I detect a length of about 6" (15 cm.) near the trumpet end which feels rougher than the rest and so some of the local discolourations here may be pitted, which would likely look somewhat mottled if/when cleaned. Small areas of oxidation are apparent around the rim of the trumpet (turquoise accents like you see on copper roofs).
