People are afraid of chrome or nickel plated cookware, thinking that it will harm them in some way. Chrome and nickel are used for cookware because they have non-stick properties that are desirable.

Stainless steel, a very popular cookware material, is made with a minimum of 10.5% to 11% chrome, 18/10 stainless steel is made with 18% chrome and 10% nickel. Many BBQ grills are chrome plated. Commercial restaurant griddles are often chrome plated. There is a relative new expensive line of cast iron cookware that is nickel plated.
