A hand-coloured copper plate engraving of a turkey and curassows from an 1853 edition of Oliver Goldsmith's classic, "A History of the Earth and Animated Nature". The book, which eventually went through 20 editions, was an encyclopedic work meant to catalogue every flora and fauna on earth.
The Oliver Goldsmith hand-coloured copper plates are highly prized for their beautiful illustrations with vibrant colours.
Published in 1853 by Blackie and Son, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London.
Foxing (age spots) as shown in the photos. Slight waviness of paper which will not be very apparent when the print is framed. This rare engraving is in very good condition for its age. Blank on the back. Printed on ivory-coloured medium weight paper, almost cardstock weight.
