What a neat find! A Japanese Fire Bowl!

This is an actual old-time Hibachi brand outdoor grill, made out of cast iron. It is heavy. It has the bottom charcoal bowl part and then two "trays" that fit onto the top in little slots. You can put them in the lowest part to be closer to the flames or higher to cook more slowly. There is also an inner grill grate and side handles. The whole thing sits up on little "feet" that sit on pieces of wood. To be honest, the pieces of wood may have been added on later; I'm not sure.

The grill is cast iron except for the screws and the grill tray handles that are wood. "Hibachi" is on the front, as pictured.

This item has been sitting in my aunt's barn for thirty years at least. That being said, it is in good shape for its age. One of the pieces at the back is coming loose, as pictured. And, it is dirty and has some definite rust and oxidation on it. It will have to be cleaned up before it can be used, no way around that. This is left to the buyer.

Very cool piece of cooking history though! Would be perfect for a balcony cook-out for two!

Measures:
17 inches long
10 inches wide
8 inches tall
Grills measure 16 inches long (including handle) x 8.25 inches wide each.

Interesting note: Although we think of a Hibachi as a cooking device, they were first used for heat sources for Japanese nobility and then later, as portable heaters during World War II for Japanese troops. And, uh cigarette lighters. :)
