Pinkie, painted by Thomas Lawrence in 1794
Blue Boy, painted by Thomas Gainsborough in 1770

I absolutely love this vintage framed PINKIE and BLUE BOY set that I recently came across... I hope one of you will, too! Did you know that Pinkie and Blue Boy have been referred to as "the Romeo and Juliet of Rococo portraiture"?

These are stunning!!! The intricate aged brass frames set off these beautiful masterpieces perfectly! I'm tempted to keep them myself as I think everyone should have their own Pinkie and Blue Boy to adorn their homes! Especially after doing a little research on them (see below).

Frame approx: 5-1/2" x 8"
Opening approx: 3-3/4 x 5-1/2

Little Known Facts:

I'm sure many people who study art know some of these lesser known facts, but I must admit that I did not! Please read this most interesting Wikipedia entry on these paintings, both done by different artists a quarter century apart, even though they are now forever bound together after having been purchased by Henry Huntington in the 1920's.

Sarah Goodin Barrett Moulton (aka Pinkie, a family nickname) was only 11 years old when she posed for this portrait. She unfortunately died a year later (4/23/1795), most likely from whooping cough which she caught from one of her brothers. Her brother Edward, who later owned the portrait, became father to poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. I had no idea there was an aunt/niece connection between Pinkie and Elizabeth Barret Browning!
