Handmade weathered French oak doorstop - solid wood block with rope handle for interiors, styling and home decor

Each of these solid wooden doorstops are unique and carries their own character and mark of time with natural cracks, patterns, and growth rings. The beauty of these pieces is its simplicity, minimalism and strong connection to both nature and history.

Each doorstop is made from a solid oak beam by myself and finished with a lot of care and attention to detail. The top edges are softened at an angle to give the piece a calm, rounded presence instead of a harsh, square look. The end grain on top is sanded smooth so the natural oak rings, texture and age become clearly visible. The added rope handle feels and looks as soft and tactile as the wood itself. Underneath, small raised feet help keep the doorstop in place in windy conditions and create a subtle shadow line between the wood and the floor. The rope is also fixed underneath (instead of being glued, screwed or buried) in a way that allows it to be adjustable, replaceable or repairable if ever needed.

▪️Weights
These doorstops are made from solid oak, so they carry a reassuring amount of weight. This helps them stay in place even when a door catches a draft or when used on smooth floors. The weights below are approximate and meant as a guide — each piece will differ slightly depending on the density and age of the oak.

- Medium Cube: 2,5 kg / 5,5 lb
- Medium: 3,2 kg / 7,0 lb
- Large Cube: 4,0 kg / 8,8 lb
- Large: 7,0 kg / 15,4 lb

▪️About The Wood
Weathered oak — sometimes called air‑dried or wind‑dried oak — is timber that has dried naturally outdoors for 5–10 years. During this slow ageing process, the wood stabilizes without artificial heat, develops its organic grey tone, and gains a character that kiln‑dried lumber cannot replicate. Because it’s never mechanically dried, the energy footprint is significantly lower, and the wood becomes suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

▪️Materials and Finish
- Hand-finished, no chemical treatments.
- Anti-slip, anti-scratch rubber foot pads.
- Thick, 12mm skin-safe pet-safe OEKO-Tex rope handle

▪️Sustainability
- My workshop is 100% powered by renewable energy (own solar + purchased wind and solar) and I exclusively use electric tools.
- All packaging is 100% recyclable (paper and biodegradable starch chips).
- All greenhouse emissions from deliveries are offset.
- Reclaimed and naturally weathered oak generates significantly fewer emissions than commercial lumber.
- All weathered oak are sourced from FSC-certified forests (Forest Stewardship Council).

▪️Uniqueness
- Wood is a natural material and variations in growth, grain, tone, ageing, knots and texture are part of its character; especially weathered or reclaimed pieces that have aged naturally for many years.
- This means that no two pieces will ever be identical and that small variations in head size can occur.
- These differences are part of the material’s authentic character and make every piece one‑of‑a‑kind.
- When ordering multiple pieces, I take great care to select items that complement one another in tone and appearance.
