Antique Pair of Art Nouveau Metal Painted Chippy Vases with Stone Bases Applied Cherub Figures c1890's / EVE

Art Nouveau, meaning "New Art," was a style that flourished between 1890 and 1910, characterized by organic, flowing lines and natural forms. It was a deliberate departure from the historical styles that dominated the preceding decades, embracing asymmetry and new materials. This movement influenced various art forms, including decorative arts like vases, furniture, and jewelry.

These vases, with their playful cherubic figures and decorative motifs, exemplify the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The use of metal, possibly cast iron or bronze, with a patina finish, was common for decorative objects during this period. The depiction of children in such whimsical poses was also a popular theme, adding a sense of charm and liveliness to the pieces.

* Note. Postage from France falls into bands. Up to 2kg is a reasonable cost but anything over 2kg gets expensive. The more expensive bands are 2-5kg, 5-10kg, 10-20kg and 20-30kg. So when purchasing multiple orders, we can sometimes make savings over and above automatic postage discounts applied at checkout. For example, if you buy 4 items weighing 2kg each (allowing 2kg for packaging) we can pack those items into a 10kg package.
