⭐ Original 1371 Nürtingen Etching by C. Benieg – Medieval German Architecture – Vintage Framed Art (c. 1920s)

Step into medieval Germany with this original etching by C. Benieg, created circa 1920s–1930s, depicting the Hinterburg House, a fortified 14th‑century structure once located in the castle district of Nürtingen,
Baden‑Württemberg. Built in 1371, the building no longer exists today, making this artwork a rare visual record of a lost architectural landmark.

The etching is inscribed:
“Hynburd 1371 – Nürtingen – Orig. Rad. C. Benieg”
(“Orig. Rad.” = original etching/etching plate impression, not a reproduction.)

Beautifully detailed, the artwork captures classic Swabian medieval design features:
Stone lower level built for defense
Timber‑framed upper story
Steep red‑tile roof
External entry staircase
Lush greenery surrounding the residence

Framed and ready to display — a striking piece with both artistic beauty and historical depth.

Etching image area: approx. 4.5" × 3"

⭐ History Note

This artwork preserves a building that no longer stands.

The Hinterburg House once formed part of Nürtingen’s fortified castle complex. Built around 1371, it served as a residential and administrative building within the castle district. Much of the complex was destroyed during the Great Fire of 1750, and later demolitions removed most of what remained.

By the early 20th century, artists like C. Benieg documented the final surviving medieval structures before they disappeared. This etching is one of those rare records — a window into a corner of Nürtingen lost to time.
Owning this piece means owning a preserved moment from a vanished world.
