St. George, Patron Saint of England, is celebrated on April 23rd...

"But on his breast a bloody Cross he bore,
The dear remembrance of his dying Lord,
For whose sweet sake that glorious badge we wore
And dead (as living) ever he adored." ~ Spencer

St. George was a Roman soldier who committed many acts of kindness and epitomized knighthood. An able horseman and soldier, he was a devout Christian. Upon his refusal to deny his faith, he was put to death on April 23, 303 AD by the Emporer Diocletian. He was canonized in 494 AD.

Many legends of St. George survive, including one where he slew a dragon that was terrifying the land, saving the princess who was to be sacrificed. There is a wonderful book by Margaret Hodges called, "Saint George and the Dragon". Illustrations in the book inspired this needle felted creation.

St. George stands approximately 5.25" high to his cap, though his sword can be posed high above his head due to his poseable arms. He holds an all white shield with a red cross, a recognizable symbol of this brave knight. He wears a brown sword belt and his maroon cape keeps him warm on his quest. He would make a wonderful addition to a seasonal or festival table. He has been lovingly needlefelted in the Waldorf tradition. He is available for immediate first class shipping and this listing is for the doll pictured. Priority shipping is available for an additional $2.00. Convo me if you need this option!
