It's a little scary how much computer algorithms know about us, from our bodies to our thoughts. Original watercolor painting based on a DNA gel in pink, orange and gold with the words THE ALGORITHM KNOWS YOU INSIDE AND OUT printed over the painting using a pigment-based printer.

About the Algorithm Series

In ancient times, people performed rituals and made sacrifices to gods to ensure the success of their endeavors. Artists today continue this tradition, devoting time, effort and money to gain the favor of the all-powerful ALGORITHM.

Like the gods, the Algorithm will not say directly what it wants, but it knows exactly what you want, and it knows how much you want it.

These mixed-media paintings are made using simple materials and techniques: draw with a pencil, paint with watercolor, erase pencil marks, repeat. Would it be easier and more precise to do this digitally? Sure! That’s the point.

When the paintings are dry, I channel the voice of the Algorithm and print its sayings onto the watercolors with pigment-based ink. Each one is a unique original.
