Most brass lighters are sealed beneath a factory lacquer that keeps them looking the same for years.

The Prime is prepared differently
Each authentic brass Zippo® case is completely stripped of its original lacquer and carefully hand-sanded to a brilliant high polish. This process exposes fresh brass and prepares the surface so it can respond naturally to time, touch, and everyday carry.

Before finishing, the case is briefly soaked in a traditional pickling brine which activates the copper within the alloy. This primes the metal so it can begin developing a natural patina the moment it enters your pocket.

The final step is a light seal of Renaissance Wax — the same museum-grade wax used by conservators to protect historic metal objects.

This wax protects the finish during shipping and early handling, but it is intentionally temporary.

As you use the lighter, the wax slowly wears away exactly where your hands touch it, allowing the brass beneath to darken and age according to your personal pattern of use.

The result is something unique:

No two will ever age the same.

If you prefer to start the aging process immediately, the Renaissance Wax can be removed with a quick wipe of rubbing alcohol, allowing the entire surface to begin patinating evenly.

The Prime is a Value Added Zippo Lighter. Not just a brass case with lacquer removed.

Each piece is:

• Fully stripped of factory lacquer
• Sanded down by hand to expose the "fresh" bare brass that more ready to start aging, and is then polished to a mirror finish
• Activated in a pickling bath. This "charges' the molecules to start oxidation and enriches the surface with more copper so that once it when polished, the surface is enriched for a more interesting and desirable natural patina formation.
• Buffed with museum-grade Renaissance Wax (included) This is designed to protect the finish but only until you start using the lighter. It is designed start wearing off with your own unique pattern of use and begin developing a patina right way. Alternatively, you can wash it off easily with rubbing alcohol and it will age even faster and more uniformly over the entire brass surface.

This preparation takes time, but the result is a brass lighter ready to develop character from the first day you carry it.

What to Expect:

Because the protective lacquer has been removed, the brass will naturally change color, darkening as it reacts to handling, air, and environment.

This Lighter has never been filled with fuel to ensure complete compliance with shipping regulations. It will arrive empty and you will have to fill it yourself for the first time with lighter fluid. We recommend using pure VM&P Naphtha as it burns exactly the same as name brand lighter fluids but can be purchased in bulk for much cheaper from many retailers like Walmart and Amazon. We carry aluminum fuel bottles and HTPE Plastic dripper bottles so you can safely store and pour your own fluid at home and save money. The link to that listing is here:
