Bird of Paradise Collection — 3 Live Seedlings, 3 Varieties in One Pot

WHAT SHIPS: Three live starter seedlings growing together in ONE pot—one Pride of Barbados, one Yellow/Desert Bird of Paradise, and one Mexican Bird of Paradise. Each seedling has a color-coded tag. The lead photograph shows the approximate shipping size; flowering plants are mature growth examples.

FOR GARDENERS WHO ENJOY GROWING BEYOND THE ORDINARY

This collection is for curious gardeners who find satisfaction in nurturing uncommon plants from an early stage. Instead of buying one finished nursery specimen, you receive three distinctive young plants growing together in one pot. Each has its own color-coded tag so you can tell them apart as you help them establish and watch their individual character emerge.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

You will receive three live, seed-grown starter plants:

• One Pride of Barbados (Caesalpinia pulcherrima)
• One Yellow/Desert Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia gilliesii)
• One Mexican Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia mexicana)
• All three seedlings growing together in one pot, each with a color-coded tag
• Seedling height varies; see the current seedling photograph for a size reference
• Printed Botanical Scout Seedling Care & Planting Guide

START YOUNG. GROW SOMETHING REMARKABLE.

These young seedlings are the intended Botanical Scout experience. The three plants share one pot for shipping and can be separated when you are ready to plant. They give you the opportunity to establish three uncommon plants in your conditions and participate in what they become.

The seedling photographs show the approximate size and stage you can expect to receive. Mature photographs are growth references showing future potential, not the size being shipped. Because every plant is grown from seed, natural differences in height, shape, stem thickness, and leaf coverage are expected.

The only surprises I want you to have are pleasant ones. That begins with seeing the young plants you will receive and understanding their needs from the start. Please contact me through Etsy Messages before purchasing if you have any questions.

Three Plants, Three Distinctive Forms

Pride of Barbados

A fast-growing, heat-loving plant celebrated for its vivid orange-red and yellow flowers. Once established, it thrives in full sun and brings dramatic color to the warm-season landscape.

Yellow/Desert Bird of Paradise

An airy, open plant with pale-yellow flowers and exceptionally long crimson-red stamens. It performs beautifully in hot, dry conditions and is generally the most cold-tolerant plant in this collection.

Mexican Bird of Paradise

A durable, upright plant producing generous clusters of bright-yellow flowers. In favorable climates, it can mature into a substantial shrub or graceful small tree.

Why This Trio Works

Although all three plants appreciate heat, sun, and well-draining soil, each contributes a different flower, texture, and growth habit. Together they offer:

Orange-red, pale-yellow, and golden-yellow blooms
Contrasting plant forms and foliage
Long warm-season interest
Excellent heat and drought tolerance once established
Value for pollinators
Strong compatibility with xeriscapes and low-water landscapes
Growing Conditions
Sun: Full sun after gradual acclimation
Water: Regularly while establishing; low once established
Soil: Well-draining; avoid soil that remains continuously wet
Best suited for: Hot, sunny, drought-prone landscapes
General range: Approximately USDA Zones 8–11, depending on the species and local winter conditions

Cold tolerance varies among the three plants. Gardeners near the colder edge of their range may need to protect young plants during freezes. Pride of Barbados may die back to the ground in colder areas and return with warm weather.

When Your Plants Arrive

Unpack the plants promptly and check the soil moisture. Begin in bright shade or gentle morning sun, then gradually increase their exposure to direct sunlight over the following week or two.

Temporary wilting, soft leaves, discoloration, or limited leaf drop can occur after shipping and does not necessarily indicate an unhealthy plant. Keep the root zone appropriately moist during acclimation, but do not leave the seedlings in saturated soil.

Detailed acclimation, planting, and care instructions are included with your order.

LIVE-ARRIVAL GUARANTEE

Your plants are guaranteed to arrive alive. If a plant is dead when delivered, contact me through Etsy Messages within 24 hours of the carrier’s recorded delivery time and include clear photographs showing:

• The complete plants
• The stems and growing medium
• The shipping container and packaging

Temporary drooping, wilting, leaf loss, discoloration, or minor cosmetic damage can occur during shipping and does not mean that a plant is dead. These conditions are not covered by the live-arrival guarantee.

The guarantee applies only to the plants’ condition at delivery. It does not cover subsequent decline or loss because watering, sunlight, temperature, soil, drainage, transplanting, handling, weather, and other growing conditions are outside my control after delivery.

After reviewing the photographs and delivery information, I will determine whether the live-arrival guarantee applies. Any approved resolution will be handled through Etsy.

I am always happy to help with acclimation and care questions.
