This full color stamp features a typical store from the 1870s showing a couple, their child, and their dog at the counter picking up a mail order. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of mail order the 8 cent stamp was issued in 1972. Mail order was first implemented by Aaron Montgomery Ward in 1872 in Chicago, Illinois. And the concept was popular until the advent of the internet changed the scope of mail order. The charcoal bead chain is 30" and the silver pendant is 1".

The back story on these stamps is that my maternal grandfather collected them and gave them to my mother. She mailed them to her mother-in-law and she carefully saved all those letters and stamps to be discovered by me. I fell in love with these and knew I had to find a way to preserve them and use them.
