Description

Rare Battle Mountain "Blue Gem" Turquoise / .925 Sterling Silver / Carnelian Gem accent

This is a funky tropical pendant with a gorgeous blue-green turquoise cab from the famous Battle Mountain "Blue Gem" mine in Nevada. The untreated, all natural stone has a rich shiny green color with golden matrix - rare and collectible. (see below for more about the mine)

The silver petals were hand fabricated and molded to give them some play, then finished with a high shine and patina to bring out the texture.

A designer sterling chain adds an elegant touch with a bright orange Carnelian gemstone briolette on the end.
The lobster clasp can be attached anywhere along the chain for a perfect fit.

There are two hand-crafted bails on the back to keep the pendant centered when worn.

Overall size pendant: 1 5/16 inch wide x 1 inch high

Turquoise: 16 ctw - 23mm x 14mm

*** CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY for the Blue Gem Turquoise is provided***
Ships 3-5 day Priority USPS Mail, arrives in gift box with ribbon ready for giving

~~~ ABOUT BATTLE MOUNTAIN, BLUE GEM TURQUOISE ~~~~~~~
The Blue Gem Turquoise Mine was located in the Copper Basin area southwest of Battle Mountain, Nevada. Production of this mine started about 1934 and continued until the 1970's.
Doc Wilson owned the Blue Gem Turquoise Mine from 1938 - 1981 when he leased it to Lee Hand. Lee Hand owned and operated the mine until 1970 when he sold his interest to my friends, the Elquist family. While the turquoise mine was very prolific at one time, the mine no longer exists due to extensive mining operations.
Currently it is considered extremely RARE and VALUABLE.
Blue Gem Turquoise is said to be some of the FINEST turquoise ever found, reportedly used by the Tiffany Co. at one time. Unlike most turquoise mines, (which is chalky and unstable) this turquoise is of "gem-quality"; very shiny with pure vibrant color (will not fade, never dyed).
Most of the "finished" Blue Gem turquoise today is in private collections and museums, RARELY OFFERED FOR SALE.
I am honored to befriend the Elquist family, enabling me to hand select stones from their personal collection for designs like this one.
