Description

These eye-catching red sugar skull earrings bring together bright Czech glass beads, black crystals, and silvery daisy spacers in a pair of festive dangles perfect for celebrating the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) or Halloween. The Czech glass focals are designed as the sugar skulls, with black outlining for the facial features. The nose is an inverted heart, and the eyes have a solar or floral look to them, with lines radiating around a central hub.

The black crystals are from Swarovski (made in Austria, 5mm), and attached to the pair's sterling silver earrings hooks. I thought they would add a proper finishing touch to the dangles and a hint of elegance. The silvery daisy spacers are a nice complement to the sweet, floral design of the skull features. Made by TierraCast (made in the USA), they are silver-on-pewter beads.

Also included in this special pair are red Czech-glass faceted rondelles with dark Picasso "bead cap" finishing. As mentioned earlier, the earrings hooks are sterling silver. Their sterling hallmark is on the rear of the wires, and they come with clear ear guards (aka ear stoppers) for better security when the earrings are worn.

The design here is a classic stack, with one sugar skull bead on each dangle. This focal skull is bordered with double daisy spacers. At the bottom of the dangle is a red rondelle, and at the top is a pair of red rondelles separated by a single daisy spacer. At the very top is a triple wrap of the silver-plated earring pin.

The length of these Day of the Dead earrings is approximately 2 1/8 inches, including the ear wires.

These red sugar skull Czech glass earrings with black crystals were handmade by me with care and best wishes for their destined wearer. They come on a PrettyGonzo jewelry card and in a nice organza bag, ready for gifting to someone who loves festive and inspirational jewelry, or who simply likes a rather elegant Goth look.

A Brief Word About the Day of the Dead

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is traditionally celebrated in Mexico and Central America at the beginning of November to honor one's ancestral spirits, which are believed to return to their homeland at that time. Whereas symbols of death such as the skull are typically considered grim and forbidding, this celebration finds a measure of joy in the belief that the dead have returned, and so the skull becomes a more approachable icon of tribute and temporary reunion, used as decoration, in costumes (especially masks), and for the shape of breads and candies offered to the returning spirits. Flowers are also important for the Day of the Dead, especially the marigold, and add festive color to decorated graves and homemade altars. There is much more to this celebration, which has become more well known and popular in other countries, but I hope this brief introduction has been helpful.

FAQs

I like to ship quickly, usually 1 or 2 days after payment unless it's a weekend or holiday. Please ensure your shipping address is current.

U.S. ORDERS: I ship USPS First Class with Tracking. If you want to purchase insurance or upgrade shipping, please contact me.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Due to the new European GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations), I am currently shipping USPS First Class International to Australia only. Customers are responsible for customs fees, tariffs, and/or any surcharges from their country's postal service.

If you are from a country outside the EU, please feel free to contact me and inquire whether I can ship to you.

I will be writing my GDPR policy soon and again shipping to select EU countries.
I sincerely want you to be happy with your purchase.

Returns are accepted if you contact me within 7 days after delivery to you. I expect to receive the item no later than 2 weeks after delivery. If this timeframe is problematic for you, contact me before buying. Also, I do allow extensions for special holidays such as Christmas and Valentine's Day, as some people buy early, me included!

For All Items: I will refund for the purchase price minus original shipping cost.

You are responsible for return shipping with tracking (U.S.). Items should be in their original condition, with the original wrapping and packing materials. Extra items, like jewelry cards, gift bags, boxes, freebies, should be included.
Non-receipt: I will do my very best to help you if items go astray. Tracking provides information on the item's routing to its destination, and I always ship directly from the post office rather than relying on postal pick-up. Again, please be sure that your shipping address is CURRENT.

Damage: I pack orders well to minimize any problem in this area. However, if your purchase arrives damaged, contact me immediately. I will do my very best to help.
I accept PayPal and Etsy Payments. Please be aware that even if you are not a member of PayPal, you can securely use it to pay for your purchase with a major credit card.

Payment must be made within 24 hours of purchase or the order will be cancelled.

To Rhode Islanders: Sorry to say, but by law I must apply 7% sales tax to your purchase and pass it on to "the governor."
Yes, I am always happy to accept a custom order! Whether or not I require a deposit, full amount, or neither will depend on the nature of the order. I have done a number of such orders elsewhere with no deposit or purchase required, as I knew I could simply add those items to my inventory if the customer decided not to purchase. (Customers always did purchase them, though.) I always show photos of custom orders to the customer.
If you are buying a gift for someone and have used that person's address for shipping, please let me know at the time of ordering - I will be happy to include a complimentary notecard in which is written whatever message you would like to send.

Of course, I am always happy to send to that person's address. Just please make sure it is CURRENT. Thank you!
