Fluffy halo over a long, easy drape of hand crochet.

This scarf is built from four yarns - acrylic, polyester, superwash wool and polyamide - worked stitch by stitch into a long, brushed-fluff strip. Hand-crocheted from end to end, it comes out 180 cm (70.9 in) long without fringe and 22 cm (8.7 in) wide. That is long enough to wrap twice around the neck and still leave the ends hanging loose. The fluff sits up off the surface rather than lying flat, which is what gives it its texture.

WHAT GOES INTO IT

Eleven to fourteen hours, and the crochet is only half of it.
The scarf is worked stitch by stitch to 180 cm. Once the shape is finished, the surface goes through a second, separate pass - brushed up by hand to raise the halo.
Acrylic makes up thirty-five percent of this yarn, polyester another thirty-three. That is what is in it, not a rare-fibre blend.
One dye lot, one scarf - there is no second run to spread those hours across.

HOW IT FEELS

The surface is soft and a little hazy under the fingers, with the brushed fibres sitting up rather than lying flat.
The superwash wool underneath adds some backbone, so the halo holds its shape instead of going limp.
It feels soft against the skin rather than scratchy.
Expect a little shedding in the first week or two as the brushed fibres settle; that eases with wear.

I do not restock and I do not repeat a colourway - partly by choice, partly because the yarn came from one dye lot and that lot is finished.

CARE

Hand wash only, lukewarm, pH-neutral wool detergent.
Squeeze gently, like kneading dough. Do not wring, twist or pull.
Dry flat on a towel, away from sun and radiators.
Brushed yarn sheds a little for the first week or two. That is the halo settling, not a fault. Shake it out and it stops.
If small bobbles appear where it rubs, lift them with a knitwear comb - never a razor.
Store folded and clean. Moths go for skin oils, not for the fibre, so put it away washed. Cedar in the drawer, not mothballs.
