The Sanguine Ring

The color the cathedral keeps. An oval lab-created garnet, deep as spilled wine, held above the band in four ball-tipped prongs. A gothic arch window is engraved into each shoulder, and thorn vines creep the length of the tapered band — solid 925 sterling silver, oxidized so every line reads dark.

Turn it in profile and the setting becomes architecture: an openwork gallery with a single teardrop cut beneath the stone, so light passes through the ring the way it passes through a chapel window.

Keep dry. The oxidized finish is meant to age; a soft polishing cloth on the raised silver keeps the contrast bright.
