Highlights
Panicled Aster Seeds — Symphyotrichum lanceolatum
This packet contains 15 seeds of panicled aster, Symphyotrichum lanceolatum, also known as lance-leaved aster. It is a branching herbaceous perennial in the daisy family, grown for clusters of small pale-rayed flowers with yellow centres. The order contains planting seed only. Seed-grown plants can vary in height, branching, and flowering time.
Sow in a clean, freely draining seed-starting medium. Press seeds onto the surface and cover only lightly. Keep the medium evenly moist and provide bright light after emergence. If germination is uneven, retain the labelled tray rather than discarding it quickly. Move sturdy seedlings into individual pots and acclimatise them gradually before planting outdoors.
Choose sun to partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. Leave generous spacing for airflow because mature asters can form broad, branching clumps. Water during establishment and extended dry periods. Taller stems may need support in exposed positions. Dividing established clumps periodically can maintain space and vigour. Check foliage for powdery mildew or rust, particularly where air movement is limited.
The flowers suit perennial borders, meadow-style planting, and late-season pollinator gardens. Store unused seed sealed, labelled, cool, dry, dark, and protected from humidity and temperature swings.
