Located near the entrance to San Francisco Bay, Mile Rocks Lighthouse was built in 1904 following the wreck of the Rio De Janeiro near Fort Point and the loss of 140 lives. The lighthouse was built atop two large rocks that were previous hazards to navigation. Seen here in 1934. The tower was dismantled in the 1960's to make way for an automated airhorn/aerobeacon system - Mile Rocks was a victim of modernization. Postcard is chrome, 3 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches and never used. NOTE: This is a COPY postcard of the original 1934 postcard.

I also have MotherMarysReligious and OldLadysThisandThat on Etsy.
