Folk Art Canvas Over Wire Decoy Harlequin Drake C-HD-1

Description:
This is a life size canvas over wire Harlequin Duck drake decoy. The Harlequin drake is the most colorful of the sea ducks. Unlike most waterfowl found in the US, the Harlequin nest near fast flowing streams.

This style of decoy was commonly used on the eastern shore around the turn of the century. The body of the decoy is formed by pulling and tacking a canvas skin over a frame made of a wooden bottom board and backbone with wire “ribs” to give the body its shape. Once painted, the canvas shrinks and conforms even more to the frame making the decoy quite durable.

The Harlequin has a hand carved white pine head with taxidermy quality glass eyes and is hand painted using acrylic paints and sealed with acrylic sealer. The "canvas" in this decoy is actually recycled denim from a pair of blue jeans - works great for decoys!

This is an unkeeled decoy so it will sit well on a shelf or table.

All of my work is signed and numbered, and since I make them one at a time, they all have a slightly different pose or attitude.

US shipping included in the price of this decoy!

Harlequin measures: 14.5” long, 7” tall and 5.75” wide
