One of our projects at Art for a Democratic Society is what we call the "Manifesto Exchange." In order to create a more self-aware and critical art community, we're trying to increase awareness of past art movements and the art of the manifesto. To do this, we're publishing a number of historical manifestos as well as manifestos written recently by local artists. We make them available at cost to the general public to create a critical dialogue on art and its place in society.

This is our mini-zine of Chris Stroffolino, local Oakland artist's, Emeryvilification Manifesto, which talks about the "Emeryvilification" (gentrification) of Oakland. Bright pink cardstock cover, black and white, 5 pages.

Frequently asked questions about a4ds

We make buttons and designs for left-wing causes at a special "political" rate. Please contact us if you are an organization and we'll discuss pricing and options.

Contact us for bulk pricing if you're interested in ordering more than 20 of any one item. We love doing orders for schools and organizations!
Due to the nature of our items, we don't generally gift wrap. If your purchase is a gift, let us know and we can include a note.
Our philosophy is to create art that is affordable for broke people like us. We use the small profit margins on our zines and buttons to subsidize projects and giveaways - we often give away zines or buttons in exchange for participation in one of our events.

We don't believe in copyright protection for the most part, so all of our work is fair use copyright, meaning if you want to use our text or images for anything that you're not going to then turn around and sell, by all means, go for it. We don't care if you scan a whole zine and put it on the web if that's your thing, as long as you're not making money off of it. But please if you do that, email us the link and credit our work!
