Sorghum Sudan Grass Seeds

Choose a packet of 100 or 300 planting seeds of the warm-season grass sold as Sorghum Sudan Grass. The Site DB and current Etsy listing agree on the common crop identity, but the owned records do not establish whether this lot is a pure sudangrass selection or a sorghum-sudangrass hybrid. For that reason, this description does not assign a more specific botanical name than the records can support.

Sow directly after frost danger has passed and the soil is thoroughly warm. Prepare a firm, weed-free seedbed and place seed approximately 1–3 cm deep, adjusting toward the shallower end in heavier soil. Good seed-to-soil contact and moisture at sowing support even establishment. Water gently if rainfall is not expected, then keep the surface from drying severely while seedlings emerge.

Grow in full sun. Control weeds early, before the grass develops its rapid summer growth. Established plants can produce substantial leafy biomass when warmth, moisture, and fertility are adequate. University of Minnesota Extension classifies sudangrass and sorghum-sudangrass among warm-season annual grasses and reports that their performance varies with planting conditions and management.

For mature seed collection, allow selected heads to ripen and dry, cut them before heavy shedding, and finish drying under cover before threshing. Plant height, regrowth, and maturity are climate-dependent. Store unused seed sealed, labelled, cool, dry, dark, and protected from insects and humidity.
