Highlights
Grow ornamental kale for bold rosettes and cool-season texture in beds, borders and decorative containers. This Brassica oleracea selection is valued for foliage rather than a showy flower: the layered leaves form compact, cabbage-like heads that become a striking feature when many summer annuals are fading.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
• One packet containing 100+ ornamental kale seeds
• Botanical name: Brassica oleracea
• Sold as decorative flowering kale seed
SOWING
Sow thinly in modules or a prepared seed bed. Cover lightly, keep the compost evenly moist and provide good light after emergence. Move seedlings on before they become crowded. When young plants have developed several true leaves, transplant them carefully to their final position and allow enough space for each rosette to broaden.
GROWING ON
Plant in full sun in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Water consistently during establishment and dry weather, directing water to the soil rather than leaving foliage wet for long periods. Good spacing and airflow help the leaves develop cleanly. The strongest decorative colour is generally associated with cooler conditions, although timing and intensity vary with climate.
This listing is for ornamental seed; it is not presented as a named edible vegetable cultivar. Leaf colour, rosette size and development will vary with temperature, light and cultivation. Store unused seed sealed in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
