A Herd of Cats Holiday Tale- a collection of real life kitty stories based on events at Nana and Grandpa Pete’s house.

Thanksgiving was over, the start of the holiday season had begun, and Christmas would soon be here.

All of the cats were excited to know that the season of love and giving was starting. The cats generously gave love to Nana and Grandpa Pete who adopted them over the years. Monday Monday was the oldest of the herd and mother to many of the other kitties. She told the younger cats of the gifts to come during the holiday season.

Nana and Pete enjoyed watching the cats receive their holiday gifts. The first of many gifts were new beds that were colorful with fuzzy linings. Sometimes the kitties climbed in alone, but they usually nestled in groups. Sometimes Andy, Kitty Boo, Kemba, and Juicy all crowded in together. The pile of kittens was a comical sight- heads, tails, and toes in all directions.
Next, Nana crocheted toy mice for the kitty friends. All of the kittens spent a lot of their time playing, throwing the toys in the air, pouncing, and hoping one of the other kitties wouldn't beat them to their toy.
The next special day was all about treats! mmmmmmm...There were crunchy, soft, tuna, chicken and beefy treats to be had. Plenty for all of the kitties to snack all day long.
After that, Pete built new shelves along the walls of the house for the kitties to climb and play. Inky and Gilbert always enjoyed watching Pete work. These two kitty inspectors had learned many building skills during their stay with Nana and Grandpa Pete. As if these new shelves weren't exciting enough, Nana added sprigs of dried catnip from her garden. She even tied some catnip to ribbon to hang from high above. These ribbons had always been a favorite of Ingadilly. She would bat and chew at the stems for hours.
Kitties who play hard need to eat well. Pete bought them chunks of meat from the corner deli to add to the usual dinner crunchies. The delicious delicacy warmed their bellies and hearts.

Christmas was coming and these kitties were very deserving of being treated especially well.

The days were getting dark earlier and earlier, so the next gift was a laser pointer for the kitties to chase. Nana and Pete knew this would be an extra fun way to spend the dark evenings with their kitty friends.
After that, the kitties got special holiday attention of a pet-a-cure. Along with nail trims, everyone got a long relaxing brushing. This kitty massage had everyone calm.

There was still more to come. These kitties certainly made the "good list" for the holidays.

Pete got new cardboard scratch pads scented with catnip. The kitties quickly determined they were multipurpose. Sometimes they scratched, sometimes they slept, but mostly they just plain perched to take in all of the sights.
Spot and her kittens were particularly fond of the next gift. They got plastic balls with jingle bells inside. As the kitties played the entire house really started to sound a lot like Christmas.
Sometimes the best gifts were the ones that were free! Pete and Nana put several large cardboard boxes and paper bags in the play area. What a fun way to change the entire environment. All of the cats joined in a game of hide and seek. They played for hours.
So that Nana could enjoy playing as well, she tied a toy on a string hanging from a stick. Nana looked like she was fishing for kitties, and the kitties acted as if they were catching great prey. This game went on for sometime before everyone was ready for a rest in their fuzzy beds.
Christmas was only a few days away. The postal carrier came with a large box. Pete brought the box inside to assemble this wonderful gift from Auntie Al. It was a kitty climbing tree. The rest of the day every kitty played musical chairs taking turns at the top pedestal. Every time Nana or Pete checked on the kitties they had changed seats.

They really had a wonderful time and still do. The kitties and humans who love them shared a wonderful Christmas together. So much for the cats to do, and so much fun watching them. The winter days were short, so all of the holiday gifts made the long winter more enjoyable.

The End.
