Raku Steampunk Pendant - Copper and Green Gear and Bearing Medallion

This pendant is raku-fired porcelain, with a 4mm copper loop attached to the top - securely glued in and ready to receive a jump ring or to be strung on a chain or cord. This pendant also has a small copper loop attached to the bottom, to which a dangle or drop (or more gears!) can be attached.

The pendant measures 1 1/2" wide and 1 3/4" tall, including the copper loop at the top (about 3.75 X 4.5 cm). The bright metallic copper glaze has hints of green and fuchsia, with blue-green glass melted in the center of one of the gears. The pendant is nice and light, lighter than it might look.

If you like this pendant but need a different style of bail or loop, you’d like it in another glaze, need extra loops, links to go with it, etc. – let me know. I’m happy to work with special requests!

Each of our pieces is sealed with silicone grout sealer, which very effectively keeps the glazes from changing color over time. The backs of the pendants are left unglazed and the smoke during the firing process turns them a soft, matte black. The pendants are somewhat fragile but just need the same care given to any delicate piece of jewelry.

In raku firing, pieces are removed from the kiln while still glowing-hot and placed into a reduction chamber (ours is a large metal garbage can filled with newspaper). The newspaper surrounding the pieces bursts into flame and is allowed to burn briefly, then smothered. The resulting reduction atmosphere changes the glazes, giving them metallic, iridescent or opalescent effects and, on some glazes, a fine crackle pattern. Glazes can vary wildly, even within the same firing and so the results are always exciting and no two pieces are exactly alike.

Shipping, to US addresses, is included on this and any jewelry item in this shop.
