How to Draw Patterns Printable, Step by Step Beginner Pattern Practice Sheets PDF

That is the thing the reviews on this shelf keep asking for and not getting. A finished pattern is a picture of somebody else's decision. A numbered sequence of strokes is something you can follow with a pen.

It is in English. Every word of it.

WHAT IT IS

A 13 page printable, as a PDF. Six patterns, and for each one a lesson page and a practice sheet.

The lesson page is the pattern drawn four or five times over, once per step, with the sentence that makes each step beside the square it happens in. Step three is step two with one more kind of mark on it. Under them, the finished tile, larger, on its own.

The practice sheet is the same square, at the same size, nine times on the page. The first one is carried two steps in for you, the two beside it have the guides ruled and nothing else, and the six below are bare paper.

You download it, you print it, you draw on it with a pen you already own.

It comes in US Letter, in A4, and in A5.

SIX PATTERNS, AND WHAT EACH ONE COSTS YOU IN MINUTES

Waves, four steps, about five minutes for a full square.
Boxes, four steps, six minutes.

Forty six minutes of drawing if you do each one once, and the practice sheets are there because nobody does.

NOTHING IN IT IS BLANK

There are no ruled lines under a heading for you to fill in and no page that says Patterns across the top and leaves the rest to you. Every square on every lesson page has ink in it. The guides you need are ruled, the stroke is named, and the order is numbered.

The help runs out on purpose, and only on the practice sheet. The first square is started, the next two are ruled, and the rest of the page is yours from the first line. A pattern goes wrong halfway down for one reason, which is that the guides were ruled once and then the hand stopped looking at them, so the sheet hands them over three times and then stops.

THE PRACTICE SHEETS COME AGAIN AS THEIR OWN FILE

The lesson page is read once. The practice sheet is printed until the pattern is yours, and if you take to the rope pattern you want that one sheet five times without opening the pack to find page eleven.

So all six practice sheets ship again in a second file, at all three papers, eighteen pages. You print the one that matches the pack you printed.

PRINTING

Black ink only, on every page. No colour cartridge, no full bleed, nothing to trim. The heaviest page in the pack is 4 percent ink, which is the cover, and the practice sheets are under 3.

The three papers are laid out separately rather than one scaled into the other, so the type is the same size on the A5 as on the big sheet and the squares are the size the pattern was taught in. Every page prints on its own, and the left margin is left clear for a hole punch.

It opens in the free PDF reader that is already on your computer, your phone and the library printer. There is no account to open, no editor to learn, no template to unlock and no watermark to pay to remove.

WHAT THIS IS NOT

It is not editable, and it is not a Canva template. It is a printable you draw on with a pen. Please read that line twice before you buy, because it is the thing people are disappointed by on this shelf and I would rather you did not buy it than be sorry you did.

It is not a colouring book. Nothing in here is a finished picture waiting for colour. Six of the thirteen pages are the lessons and six are empty squares, which is the opposite trade.

It is not two hundred pages. Thirteen is the whole of it, and the second file is those same pages again in the other papers rather than more of them.

HOW THIS WAS MADE

Designed by me, start to finish. Which patterns, how many steps each one breaks into, where a step begins and ends, the sentence that teaches it and the layout of both pages are mine.

Every line on every page is drawn by a renderer I wrote, from the shape itself, which is why the steps of a pattern cannot disagree with the pattern. Step two is the same drawing as step five with three of the marks not made yet. It is also why there is nothing to clean up: these are not scans and they are not traced, so there are no broken edges, no grey fringes and no half pixels to print badly.

This is a digital download. Nothing is posted, so there is nothing to track and nothing to return. If a file will not open, write to me and I will sort it out.
