Real Framed Asian Swallowtail Butterfly | Papilio xuthus, Black & Gold Shadow Box

ASIAN SWALLOWTAIL — BLACK & GOLD
Papilio xuthus | One-of-one framed specimen artwork

Pale ivory, soft yellow, and intricate dark veining meet a richly understated black-and-gold setting. This original framed artwork presents a real preserved Asian Swallowtail butterfly against a deep charcoal-black background, finished with four ornate gold-tone corner embellishments.

The composition balances the fine, almost architectural pattern of the wings with the quiet depth of the shadow box. Warm corner accents echo the butterfly's yellow tones, while generous negative space lets the specimen remain the unmistakable focal point.

THE SPECIMEN

Presented underside-forward, this Papilio xuthus reveals an especially intricate arrangement of light and dark. Ivory-white markings fan across the forewings, divided by fine dark lines and bordered with a delicate sequence of pale spots. The hindwings introduce soft lemon-yellow tones, smoky markings, and small warm accents near their scalloped edges.

Slender swallowtail extensions complete the silhouette. From across a room, the butterfly reads as a luminous natural form; closer viewing reveals the wing pattern, fine texture, and delicate structure that make this individual specimen so compelling.

THE BLACK & GOLD COMPOSITION

A black wood-and-glass shadow box gives the artwork a clean, substantial outline. Inside, the uninterrupted dark field allows the butterfly's pale markings to stand forward with striking clarity.

Four ornamental gold-tone corners add an antique-inspired flourish. Their scrolling detail complements the organic shape of the wings, bringing warmth and ornament to an otherwise restrained presentation. The landscape arrangement follows the spread of the butterfly and gives the finished piece a balanced, intimate presence.
