DESCRIPTION
Thorvald Boeck's Library by Harriet Backer, 1902, printed as a library interior poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Harriet Backer ranks among Norway's greatest painters. Born in 1845, she trained in Munich, then spent ten years in Paris, where Monet and the Impressionists taught her to paint light. Back home she turned that skill on quiet rooms, following daylight as it moved across walls and floors. She painted this private library in Kristiania, now Oslo, in 1902 and signed it with the city and the year. Shelves of books fill the room, and light does the rest. At the time, Backer also ran one of the city's leading painting schools. The National Museum in Oslo bought the canvas in 1983 and shows it today.

THE LOOK
Warm browns and deep reds, lit by soft northern daylight. Calm, bookish and cosy. Suits a home library, study, reading nook or bookshelf wall.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.

Every print in our shop starts with a real painting from a museum collection or public archive. We research each work and prepare the file for print. We never sell AI-generated art.
