Seller's description

Requiescat by Briton Riviere, 1888, as a framed print in an antique gold frame on a cream wall. A bloodhound sits in mourning beside the body of a knight in full armour, laid out on a blue embroidered cloth.

DESCRIPTION
Requiescat by Briton Rivière, 1888, printed as a Victorian art poster on 240gsm matte paper. Sizes A5 to A1 and 12x16 to 24x36 inches, framed or unframed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Rivière painted Requiescat in 1888 and showed it at the Royal Academy the same year. The Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney bought it from the artist a decade later, and it hangs there today. A knight in full armour lies on a bier draped in blue and gold cloth, a laurel wreath on his chest. His bloodhound rests its head on the bed and looks up at him, keeping vigil. The title comes from the Latin prayer for the dead, the root of "rest in peace." Rivière built his name on paintings of animals, and this hound's grief carries the whole scene.

THE LOOK
Deep blue, gold and steel grey, with warm russet in the hound's coat. Quiet and sombre. Suits a study, hallway, library or gallery wall.

THE PRINT
A fine art reproduction of the original painting on 240gsm matte paper. Rich colour, no glare.

Sizes: A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Custom sizes on request. Frames: black, white or oak, or unframed.

Printed locally in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, at the location closest to you. Free tracked shipping, no customs fees.

Please note: each print is reproduced from a museum photograph of the original painting. Larger sizes show the canvas weave, brushwork and age cracks up close, details not visible in these photos or smaller prints. Like the painting itself, it is best viewed from a short distance.

REAL ART, NOT AI
Every print in our shop starts with a real painting from a museum collection. We research each work and prepare the file for print. We never sell AI-generated art.

PRINT QUALITY
