Bookbinders' needles are not just any old needle. They are firstly a strong needle and they also have polished eyes to reduce the wear on your thread. I sell them in two sizes of straight, 15 and 18. The size 18 is the most commonly used and suites a thread size of say 25/3. Size 18 comes in a pack of five. Size 15 in a pack of three and the curved also in a pack of three. We also sell a combination set which is three size 18, two size 15 and two curved. The curved are what is termed mattress needles, they are especially good for coptic binding.
