THE BOOKMOBILE MIX-UP: a printable reading escape room game for Grades 2 and 3
Every Saturday the bookmobile, a sunny yellow library on wheels, drives along the coast road of Pebblewick Bay, across the water from a golden pyramid. Tolly the ring-tailed lemur rides along and reads stories on the rug under the striped awning. But today the road was extra bumpy: books slid off the shelves, pages flew out, and everything got mixed up. The new books for Story Time wait in the Story Chest, and the chest has a word lock. Six reading jobs give six shelf words, and the Shelf Finder turns them into the lock word.

THIS IS A PRINTABLE ESCAPE ROOM GAME for a classroom (4 to 6 teams) or for 1 to 6 children at home, a library or a club. It is not a book and not a worksheet pack: crews move around six stations, write each shelf word on a Book Log, and open one last lock together. Everything is paper: no padlocks, boxes, books or devices needed.

HOW IT PLAYS (65 to 80 minutes, or two shorter lessons)
- Story and ABC Warm-Up (put four book words in ABC order)
- Six stations, about 8 to 10 minutes each; every crew starts at a different one
- The Shelf Finder: each shelf word goes on a shelf in ABC order. A right word lands on a shelf with a GOLD STAR; every likely slip lands on a shelf with no star, so crews see which station to check again
- The six letters spell the lock word and the Story Chest opens: Super Reader certificates for everyone

SIX READING STATIONS (numbered from the easiest to the hardest)
- 1 The Bus Aisle, The Dropped Pages: put a story's pages back in order with time words; the corner letters spell the shelf word (Chapter Book: one page is from a different book)
- 2 The Hammock, The Mystery Word: what does the made-up word "plim" mean? Cross out meanings clue by clue (context clues)
- 3 The Picture-Book Shelf, The Clap Stack: clap the syllables of picture words, add them up a math pyramid, and find the book with that many pages
- 4 The Fact Book Corner, The Lost Title: pick the chapter title that fits a whole fact page about sea otters, not too big and not one detail (main idea)
- 5 The Beach Path, The Story Steps: a story pyramid maze; at every step only one event can happen next (cause and effect)
- 6 The Reading Rug, The Fact Finder: use a seed book's Contents (and Index) to find the right chapter (text features)

TWO LEVELS, ONE ANSWER KEY
- Picture Book cards, Grade 2: time words, four clues, a 4-row clap stack, three titles, a 4-row story pyramid, the Contents page
- Chapter Book cards, Grade 3: a page from another story to leave out, five meanings, a 5-row clap stack with a four-clap word, a two-part fact page and four titles, a 5-row story pyramid, the Index and the Contents together
- Both levels of a station give the SAME word, so mixed classes play side by side and you check everyone with one key
- Book words (sequence, context clues, syllable, main idea, cause and effect, index) are on every crew's Book Log and on a slide

3 KINDS OF MATH PYRAMID PUZZLE
- In the kit: the Clap Stack (syllable claps added up a pyramid)
- In the free bonus folder: the Page Stack (a pyramid of chapter pages, worked back) and the Page Hop (a pyramid maze, counting on by 7)
- Plus a story pyramid maze at Station 5 (a reading maze, not a math pyramid)

WHAT YOU GET (instant download, 4 PDF files)
- Full kit, US Letter (37 pages)
- Full kit, A4 (37 pages)
- Projector slides, 16:9 (12 slides: story, mission, book words, move signal, countdown books, the Shelf Finder, the chest opens, answers)
- Tablet edition with tap-to-jump hint and answer buttons (classroom play needs the printed cards)
- Free bonus folder (QR code inside): Story Night (4 fast-finisher cards with answers and hints: The Page Stack and The Page Hop, two math pyramids; The Book Club, a logic grid; Sound-Alike Words, homophones) and ink-saver editions of every page

INSIDE THE KIT
- For the teacher: what to print and how many (with sheet counts), a room plan, an 80-minute and a 65-minute plan by the clock, a step-by-step script that also works without a projector, skills with Common Core ELA codes, an answer key with solved pictures, 3-step hint cards for every puzzle (where to start, the method, the worked answer)
- For every crew: mission page, Book Log with the ABC Warm-Up, book words and three hint bookmarks, crew badges and job cards (Reader, Writer, Checker, Runner)
- For the room: six full-color station signs
- The puzzles: 12 station cards (six stations, two levels) and the Shelf Finder card
- Two-up "Super Reader" certificates with type-in names

YOU WILL NEED
Printer (color looks best; ink-saver pages are in the bonus folder), paper, pencils, a clock and tape for the signs. 30 to 40 minutes to print and set up the first time. Every crew writes on its own cards (or use plastic sleeves and dry-erase pens to save paper). No real chest is needed; if you like, put new library books in a box for the crews to open at the end.

GOOD TO KNOW
- Digital download only: nothing is shipped.
- Print at 100% (actual size), single-sided.
- Short, kind texts written for Grades 2 and 3: a lemon tree that grows from a seed, a rainy day at the beach, sea otters holding paws, seeds that travel. Great for a reading block, literacy centers, a library visit, a sub day or a rainy afternoon.
- Pebblewick Bay, Tolly and this story are made up. Ring-tailed lemurs are real: they live only on the island of Madagascar. Bookmobiles are real too: libraries on wheels.
- Play times are plans, not promises: classes differ. Hints keep every crew moving.
- Not tested with a class: it was solved and set up from the printed pages alone by separate AI sessions, and their notes were acted on.
- Love math pyramids? Creouts Publishing also publishes math pyramid puzzle books in paperback (search "Creouts Publishing" on Amazon).

LICENSE
For one teacher's own classes, or one family or club. Print as many copies as you need for your own students. No resale, sharing, uploading or claiming as your own; no AI training.
