Handmade product pricing calculator spreadsheet for Excel and Google Sheets showing the retail price and profit after Etsy fees at the top
Leider konnten wir diesen Artikel nicht auf Deutsch übersetzen.

Handmade Product Pricing Calculator for Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets: an instant-download spreadsheet that prices your candles, soap, jewelry and other handmade items, showing your retail price, wholesale price, profit after Etsy fees and what you earn per hour at the top of the sheet. It adds up your materials, your time at the hourly wage you choose, packaging, shipping supplies, equipment wear and a share of your monthly costs, then works out each Etsy fee line by line.

Made for makers in the US who sell candles, soap, jewelry and other handmade products on Etsy, at markets or wholesale to shops. Works in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets on a computer.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Price from your real supply costs: type the pack price, how much is in the pack and the unit. The cost per unit is worked out for you, so a 10 lb bag of wax for $29.99 becomes about $0.19 an ounce.
- Buy in one unit, use in another: wax bought by the lb can go into a recipe in oz or g, cord bought by the yard in inches. Pick the unit you measure in and the calculator converts it between weights, volumes or lengths.
- Build each product from a recipe: pick the product and the material from dropdown lists and type the amount for one item - 6.5 oz of wax, 0.5 fl oz of fragrance, 1 wick, 1 jar. The materials cost of the item adds itself up.
- Price batches: when one pour makes 10 bars of soap, type the time and the recipe for the whole batch and how many items it makes - they are shared over the bars. Packaging and postage stay per item.
- Pay yourself: time to make one item (decimals are fine: 1.5 hours) x your hourly wage. Your wage is part of the cost, so any profit is on top of your pay.
- Count every cost: packaging, shipping supplies, equipment wear per item, and a share of your monthly costs (shop fees, software, studio) spread over the items you make in a month.
- Get wholesale and retail prices: cost x 2 = wholesale, wholesale x 2 = retail, rounded up to your step (25 cents to start). Change both multipliers to your own.
- Or price for a target profit: pick "Target profit", type the percent you want to keep, and the retail price is set so your profit after fees, postage and all costs comes to that share of the price.
- Or check the price you charge now: pick "My price" and see the profit after fees, the margin and what you earn per hour at that price. The status line at the top turns orange when the price is below your cost, below wholesale, loses money after fees or comes to over $500.
- See your Etsy fees line by line: transaction fee 6.5% of the item and the shipping you charge, payment processing 3% of what the buyer pays (including sales tax) + $0.25, and the $0.20 listing fee. Every rate is yours to change.
- Know your profit and your hourly earnings: profit after fees, profit as a % of the price, profit per hour, what you earn per hour with your wage, and your profit per item when you sell wholesale.
- Offer free shipping with your eyes open: type $0 for the shipping you charge and the postage you pay stays a cost, so the price shows whether it still covers it.
- See every product on one Price List: cost, wholesale, retail, Etsy fees, postage, profit and profit per hour, side by side.
- Catch typing slips before you price: a missing number, text in a number cell, a zero pack size or amount, or a number far too large turns red, and the price appears once it is fixed. A fraction typed as 1/2 or a time typed as 1:30 turns red and asks for a decimal (0.5, 1.5); on Products, a time like 12:00 or 24:00 in Hours or Minutes turns red too, and so does an hourly wage under $1. A number that looks unusual - over 40 hours for one item, one item using more than a quarter of a pack of wax, oil or cord (or more than a whole pack of pieces - supplies bought one by one, like single jars, can be used 2 or more at a time), a retail price over $500 (for example a pack price typed without its decimal point), a product that loses money - turns orange so you can double-check.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
- One spreadsheet file (.xlsx) for Excel, plus a PDF with your link to make your own copy in Google Sheets. Tabs: Start Here, Materials, Products, Recipes, Pricing Calculator, Price List, Units, Notes.
- Finished examples already filled in: a soy candle 8 oz ($35.00 retail, $17.50 wholesale, $22.01 profit after Etsy fees), a beaded stretch bracelet with free shipping ($30.00 retail, $15.13 profit) and a melt-and-pour soap bar made in a batch of 10 ($13.50 retail). Replace the example prices with your own.
- Room for 50 materials, 25 products and 200 recipe lines, with 20 units to pick from (oz, lb, g, kg, fl oz, ml, l, tsp, tbsp, cup, in, ft, yd, mm, cm, m, piece, dozen, sheet, pair).
- Yellow cells are the only cells you fill in. In Excel, formula cells are locked to keep them safe from accidental edits; in your Google Sheets copy, typing over a formula shows a warning first.

HOW TO USE IT
1. Materials: type each supply once - the pack price, how much is in the pack and the unit.
2. Products and Recipes: on Products, one row per item with the time it takes to make, the items per batch, and its packaging and postage. On Recipes, the materials, amounts and units for one item or one batch.
3. Pricing Calculator: pick a product and set your hourly wage, monthly costs, pricing method and Etsy fees. The retail price, wholesale price, profit after fees and profit per hour show at the top.

FAQ
How do I price a handmade product?
Add up the cost of one item - materials, your time at an hourly wage, packaging, shipping supplies and a share of your monthly costs - then multiply: cost x 2 = wholesale, wholesale x 2 = retail. In the example, a soy candle costs $8.64 to make (10 minutes at $20 an hour included), so it sells for $17.50 wholesale and $35.00 retail. Change the multipliers if your market needs different numbers.

How much profit do I make after Etsy fees?
The calculator works out each fee on what it is charged on. For the example candle at $35.00 with $5.25 shipping and 7% sales tax, Etsy fees come to $4.35 and the profit after fees, postage and all costs is $22.01 - $132.06 for each hour of work on top of your $20 wage.

How do I price for a profit margin?
Pick "Target profit" and type the share of the price you want to keep, such as 30%. The retail price is set so your profit after Etsy fees, postage and all costs comes to that share, rounded up to your step.

Is the price I charge now high enough?
Type it in the My price column on the Products sheet and pick "My price". You see the profit after fees, the margin and what you earn per hour at that price, and the status line at the top turns orange if the price is below your cost, below wholesale, loses money or is over $500.

How do I work out the cost per ounce or per bead?
On the Materials sheet type what you paid and how much you got: $29.99 for 160 oz of wax is about $0.19 an ounce, $13.99 for 500 beads is about $0.03 a bead. In the example candle, 6.5 oz of wax costs $1.22. If you bought by the lb and measure in g, pick g on the Recipes sheet and it converts.

How do I price soap made in a batch?
On Products, type the time for the whole batch and the number of bars it makes in Items per batch; on Recipes, the amounts for the whole batch. The example soap is a batch of 10 bars that uses 45 oz from a 10 lb block of soap base, priced at $13.50 a bar.

Does it work for candles, soap and jewelry?
Yes. The examples are a soy candle, a beaded bracelet and a soap bar, and any product made from supplies you buy in packs works the same way: type the materials once, then a recipe for each product.

Can I offer free shipping?
Yes. Type $0 for the shipping you charge. The postage you pay stays a cost, and the transaction fee is then only on the item price. The example bracelet ships free: $30.00 retail, $4.10 postage, $15.13 profit.

Does it work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Your download includes a PDF with a link: click it and Google Sheets makes your own copy, no upload needed. In my checks, with the same numbers typed in, every price and check gave the same result in Google Sheets as in Excel, and the dropdown lists and the red and orange checks carry over. In Google Sheets, fill only the yellow cells.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD
After you buy, open etsy.com in a web browser (computer recommended), go to Purchases and reviews, and click Download Files. Digital files cannot be downloaded in the Etsy app.
- Microsoft Excel: open the .xlsx file in Excel on a computer.
- Google Sheets: open the PDF in your download, click Make my copy in Google Sheets, then click Make a copy. The copy is saved in your Google Drive. A free Google account is enough. (You can also upload the .xlsx at drive.google.com: New > File upload, then right-click it > Open with > Google Sheets.)

LIMITATIONS
- Instant digital download. Nothing is shipped.
- Needs Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets on a computer.
- Made in Microsoft Excel and checked in Google Sheets.
- Not tested in Excel on the web, Excel for Mac, Numbers or the Google Sheets phone app.
- In Google Sheets, formula cells are not locked as they are in Excel. The copy from your link warns you before you type over a formula; an uploaded .xlsx does not, so fill only the yellow cells.
- US dollars. Units convert within the same kind (weight, volume, length, count); a weight can't be turned into a volume.
- Prices assume one item per order; with several items in one order, the shipping, the $0.25 fixed fee and the postage are shared, so each item keeps a little more.
- Room for 50 materials, 25 products and 200 recipe lines.
- It is a pricing tool, not an inventory, order tracker or bookkeeping file.
- Etsy fees and the sales tax rate in the file are examples (Etsy US fees as published in Oct 2026; Offsite Ads, Etsy Ads, currency conversion, shipping labels and fees in other countries not included). Check your own shop and your local sales tax rate.
- Example supply prices, times and costs are examples. Replace them with your own.
- For use in your own business. Please do not resell or share the file.
- Because this is a digital download, returns and exchanges are not accepted. If anything does not work as described, send me a message on Etsy and I will help.
