Description

Indigo Mudcloth Pillow. Handmade in House.
The pillow is made from vintage indigo mud cloth from Mali, West Africa and indigo dyed fabric from India. Some color variations due to the vintage nature of the fabric. Some repaired holes may be present, if any they would be shown in the photographs.
The Mali cotton fabric is handwoven in 6"-8" strips is then handsewn together into 3'x5' yardage. Then the cloth is either dyed using 'shibori' or tie dye method or dyed using an ancient method from West Africa called "bògòlanfini" (translates to earth/mud with cloth). The fabric is soaked in a brew made from leaves, then painted with river bed mud that has been fermented. This helps it to resist the dye, then dyed, afterwhich the mud paint is washed off and the design remains.
The strips of fabric have been sewn again to reinforce the seams before the pillow was made.
The backing fabric is indigo dyed cotton from India.
The insert, which is included is duck feather & down, it is 20"x20" and is inserted into the pillow cover which is 18"x18" giving it an overstuffed appearance.
The pillow and insert are machine washable on gentle but do not dry clean. The insert in this pillow is removable, as this pillow has snap closure on one side.
Others are available please see other listings.
Descriptive words: African, Asian, Beach, Boho, Cottage, Country, Folk, Mediterranean, Nautical, Primative, Rustic, Southwestern, Tribal.
