The Haunted Wood Print, Arthur Rackham 1913 Enchanted Forest Wall Art, Folk Horror Painting

The trees have hands. And she has only just noticed.

A fine art print of The Haunted Wood by Arthur Rackham, enchanted forest wall art for a dark academia reading room.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Arthur Rackham painted The Haunted Wood in 1913. Rackham was the great illustrator of the golden age of the fairy tale book, famous for Grimm's Fairy Tales, Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. His trees are never only trees. They twist, reach and watch.

Look closely at the left. A young woman with copper hair crouches in a pale gown among the branches, her hand raised to her face, while two great birds swoop through the tangle above her. Every twig is drawn with Rackham's fine, nervous line and washed in autumn browns and golds. Notice his signature, written into the undergrowth at lower right.

THE LOOK
Autumn bronze, moss and smoky gold with a glimpse of evening blue. Eerie, delicate and beautifully tangled. Fairy tale wall art for a reading room, a gothic bedroom or a book nook, and dark cottagecore with a folk horror chill.

GIFTING
A spellbinding gift for a birthday, a housewarming or a new reading nook. A page from a fairy tale you have never read.
