Is your art AI-generated?

No. Every print in our shop is a real painting by a named artist, taken from museum collections and public archives. We research each work and prepare the file for print by hand. We never sell AI-generated art.

Are these original paintings?

No. These are high quality reproduction prints on paper. The originals hang in museums or private collections around the world.

What paper and inks do you use?

We print on 240gsm matte paper with archival, fade-resistant inks. Matte paper reduces glare and gives the colours a soft, painterly finish.

What sizes do you do?

A5, A4, A3, A2 and A1, plus 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36 inches. Need another size to fit an existing frame? Message us and we'll make a custom print.

Will the whole painting fit my chosen size?

Old paintings rarely match modern paper sizes, so some sizes trim a little from the edges. Each listing tells you which sizes fit best. Message us before ordering if you want to check a crop.

Do your prints come framed?

You choose. Order unframed to use your own frame, or framed and ready to hang in black, white or oak.

How is my print packaged?

Unframed prints ship rolled in a sturdy postal tube. Framed prints ship flat and protected.

Where is my print made, and how much is shipping?

Shipping is free. We have printing partners in the UK, Europe, the US, Canada and Australia, and we print your order at the location closest to you. That means faster delivery and no long journey across the world. Printing and packaging takes 2 to 5 days max. After that, most orders arrive within 3 to 7 working days, with tracking on every order.

What if my print arrives damaged?

Send us photos as proof of damage and we'll send a free replacement.

The eagle lies dead. For the first time in an age, Prometheus will be free.

A fine art print of Prometheus Unbound by Carl Bloch, Greek mythology wall art for a dark academia study.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
Carl Bloch painted Prometheus Unbound in 1864 for King George I of Greece. In Greek mythology the Titan Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humankind. Zeus chained him to a rock, where an eagle tore at his liver every day. Bloch paints the moment of rescue. Heracles stands on the ridge with his bow, and the eagle lies at the Titan's feet with an arrow through its body.

The painting has a story of loss of its own. It hung in the royal palace in Athens, then vanished from view for decades. In 2022 a staff member of the Ribe Kunstmuseum found it in storage in the former Greek royal collection. It now hangs at Tatoi Palace near Athens. Notice the signature and date, Carl Bloch 1864, in red at lower left.

THE LOOK
Rock grey, storm blue and a flash of red cloth. Heroic, dramatic and huge in feeling. Greek mythology art for a study, a hallway or a home library, and moody wall art with a story as old as fire.

GIFTING
A powerful gift for a graduation, a new beginning or a new home. The myth of the one who gave us fire.

MORE
More Greek mythology in our Greek Mythology Wall Art collection: Circe Invidiosa by John William Waterhouse, Medea by Frederick Sandys and Souls on the Banks of the Acheron by Adolf Hirémy-Hirschl.
