Description

Kurtina ha Purtahan are decorative door and window valences deftly assembled from origami folds made of recycled food wrappers and drinking straws.
Colorful and fun, their symmetry and sparkle add an unexpected dimension to windows, walls and doorways.
This folding style is a common craft found in the tiny Barangay of Batug in the province of Dulag in Philippine Eastern Visayas island of Leyte which is where they are made for fun and decoration.
The traditional source of income, the coconut groves, were demolished during Super-Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.
Purtahan Imports was founded specifically as a livelihood service project by two women, Malou Varona of Batug and Christina Countryman of NY. A group of 20 or so artisans happily divide the work between them when we place an order, a minimum of 100 items at once to make shipping affordable. All work is paid in full. We promise to place another order as soon as sales allow Your kurtina will be a beautiful daily reminder of your generosity to the grateful artisans of Batug.
Kurtinas sold by Purtahan Imports are made in the Philippines with design guidance and subject to approval of founders, Christina and Malou, and intended to appeal to customers in the United States.
This gorgeous kurtina was made by Asunta Remion, and is 42" wide.
