THE STORY BEHIND IT
On November 5, 1872, Susan B. Anthony cast a ballot in Rochester, New York, at a time when women were not allowed to vote. She was arrested, convicted at a trial in June 1873 and fined $100, and she never paid it. She kept working for women's right to vote for the rest of her life, and the 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, is often called the Susan B. Anthony Amendment.
