History:
Germany created exceptional examples of costume jewelry for many years. Most were produced in the 1920’s through the 1950’s, and were of the highest quality and very similar to those of Miriam Haskell and Stanley Hagler.
In 1949 after WWII, Germany split into East and West Germany. West Germany became the U.S. British and French Zones of occupation and it became the Federal Republic of Germany. East Germany became the Soviet Zone. Costume jewelry made before and during 1948 are marked "Germany".
Starting in 1949, costume jewelry was marked West Germany, W. Germany. Western Germany, Made in Western Germany, Western Zone Germany, American Zone Germany, or German Democratic Republic.
