West African Barber Shop Sign.
Signs like these are found in many neighborhoods and towns in different African countries and also parts of the Carribbean, depicting hair styles of interests and trends. The signs are painted by different artists for different businesses to show some of the services and products they offer.
This painting is from the Ivory Coast West Africa and is of a hair style offered at a men's hair salon, it also features some products scissors, comb, styling gel, etc. and the latest and greatest style of cut. It is signed by the artist 'PAPS' and has (we believe) the name of the business 'Le Nas & Temp' on it. Painted with acrylics or oil paint on plywood, with recycled wood back bracing, in colors of greens, reds, creams, browns and black. It's approx. 39"x24"x1". The painting does show signs of its age but we feel it adds to its charm, it is a wonderful example of African folk-art.
